Green Bay Packers: First-round targets in the 2021 NFL Draft
1. Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, LB/S, Notre Dame
The Green Bay Packers have traded up in the draft every year with Gutekunst at the helm, and the 2021 NFL Draft could be no different. The Packers could have a player identified that they feel is worth moving up several spots for.
It could be Notre Dame’s Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah. New defensive coordinator Joe Barry has talked extensively about how he likes hybrid playmakers, and how he wants to address the safety and nickel positions. Owusu-Koramoah fits all of those perfectly as a very good second-level defender with elite traits.
He can thrive in man coverage with his play speed and transitional skills. Owusu-Koramoah has excellent range and closing speed and is a tough finisher and tackler. He possesses great instincts in the run game and can maneuver through and dip around blocks to make tackles.
The Packers could obviously use him in the “Raven Greene” role, but Barry’s defense will likely ask him to do so much more. He will play some traditional linebacker, but cover from the slot and be a matchup eraser for the defense.
It might take a significant amount of capital to jump a few teams who could want Owusu-Koramoah, but it very well could be worth for a player like him.
