New England Patriots 2021 NFL mock draft: Round 6, 188th overall

Shi Smith. 6. player. Scouting Report. South Carolina. 850. Pick Analysis. WR

Shi Smith is a traditional slot receiver prospect who creates space well as a route runner and shows sticky hands in the middle of the field. He is not the most explosive player around but Smith displays impressive short-area quickness and good toughness from the wide receiver position. Smith lacks ideal size and functional strength from the slot but he is a hard-nosed player who consistently gets the most out of his ability.

In Smith, the New England Patriots find a rock-solid wide receiver prospect who could quickly become a fantastic weapon for the team out of the slot.

Pick Analysis. Iowa. Alaric Jackson. player. 878. Scouting Report. OL. 6

Alaric Jackson was a strong four-year starter at the left tackle position for the Iowa Hawkeyes. He was consistently strong as a run blocker and dependable as a blindside pass protector. That being said, Jackson lacks the ideal length and athleticism to play offensive tackle at the next level. A move inside to guard will likely be the best move for Jackson in the NFL.

However, this should not be looked at as a negative. Jackson’s impressive power at the point of attack and physical nature should lead to a successful transition inside. In Jackson, the Patriots find a player who could grow into a solid depth piece on the interior.

Kansas State. Wyatt Hubert. 823. Scouting Report. EDGE. 7. player. Pick Analysis

With their final pick of this 2021 NFL mock draft, the New England Patriots select Wyatt Hubert, an interesting edge rusher out of Kansas State. Hubert is not the biggest, strongest or most athletic edge rusher around, but he is a tough and energetic player who is always on the move.

Hubert consistently plays the game with a high motor and this leads to him finding the ball more often than he probably should for his skill-set. The Kansas State product may not be athletically gifted enough to ever play a major defensive role at the next level, but his hard-working demeanor will appeal to the Patriots. If nothing else, Hubert could quickly work his way into an important special teams role for this team.
