New England Patriots 2021 NFL mock draft: Round 4, 139th overall

Iowa. Ihmir Smith-Marsette. player. Pick Analysis. WR. Scouting Report. 4. 878

The Patriots spent big on offensive playmakers in free agency but they still have plenty of work to do at the wide receiver position. After the aggressive trade up the board for Fields, the Pats could not snag an elite wide receiver prospect in this 2021 NFL mock draft, but they do find value with the selection of Ihmir Smith-Marsette in the fourth round.

Smith-Marsette never put up big numbers in college but it is easy to see how he can make an impact at the next level. The Iowa product is a smooth and athletic wide receiver prospect who changes directions quickly and does a great job of separating from man defense. He is also a strong playmaker with the ball in his hands and provides value on special teams as a return specialist.

Iowa simply did not do a great job of getting the most out of Smith-Marsette throughout his college career and he has a great chance to become a more productive player at the next level. The New England Patriots have major needs at the wide receiver position and taking a chance on Smith-Marsette’s upside in this range would certainly make sense for Bill Belichick and company.

New England Patriots 2021 NFL mock draft: Round 5, 177th overall

Pick Analysis. Texas AM. Bobby Brown III. 873. Scouting Report. IDL. 5. player

Bobby Brown III is a big and powerful defensive tackle prospect who does a great job of anchoring in and filling gaps up front. He is a strong two-gap run defender who can physically overwhelm opposing offensive linemen. Brown lacks impact burst up front and is limited as an interior pass rusher, but he does his job well and would certainly appeal to the Patriots in this range.
