Seattle Seahawks mock draft: Seahawks fill gaps with few picks
By Kyle Edmond
The Seattle Seahawks will enter the 2021 NFL Draft with the fewest draft selections of any team in the league with just three. Seattle will walk cards up to the podium in just the second, fourth and seventh rounds, barring trades of course, which knowing the Seahawks are probably rather likely. While that leaves them with little capital, it’s hard to argue with how they have spent their picks.
Both the first and third-round picks of the Seattle Seahawks are currently owned by the New York Jets from the Jamal Adams trade. Given that the first-rounder is the 23rd pick and the third is the 87th overall, that’s a decent price to pay. Seattle also added their first-round pick next year as well in the deal. The jury is still out, but it’s hard to imagine that they would have been able to find a player of Adams caliber or potential at either pick or even a group of players to make up what he offers to the defense.
As for the others, the fifth-round pick went to Las Vegas for starting right guard Gabe Jackson, the sixth to Miami during last year’s draft for a seventh, and their seventh this season to Cincinnati for Carlos Dunlap. The Seahawks then gained a seventh-round pick, being the one they hold, from a trade with the Detroit Lions.
All-in-all, the Seattle Seahawks are left with their second-round pick and their fourth-round pick as well as a seventh-round pick from the Detroit Lions. Being strapped by cap concerns, the Seahawks made few moves in free agency, leaving the bulk of the gaps to be settled over the course of the three days of the draft.
With the being said, the Seahawks will have to use their limited picks wisely and might even explore adding additional picks during the draft to meet all their needs.
