2021 NFL mock draft: Round 6, 208th Overall

Scouting Report. QB. Texas. Sam Ehlinger. 4. player. 851. Pick Analysis

Rather than have the Bears reach on a quarterback with one of their earlier picks, I think the best decision would be to take advantage of the special talent at the top end of the draft and then look to add a young signal-caller to the mix on Day-3. That’s exactly what I have them doing here with the selection of Sam Ehlinger with their first of three sixth-round picks.

A four-year starter with the Texas Longhorns, Ehlinger is one of the most experienced quarterbacks in the 2021 NFL Draft class. He finished his collegiate career with 94 touchdowns through the air and added another 33 on the ground. That dual-threat ability is what really makes him an intriguing Day-3 option.

Ehlinger doesn’t have a huge arm and his accuracy can be shaky at times, but he is a big-time competitor with a similar ability to affect the game as Saints do-it-all quarterback, Taysom Hill.

I’m not saying the Bears could implement a similar package for a guy like Ehlinger, but he certainly would add a little more excitement to an otherwise pretty vanilla quarterback room at the moment.

57. CB. North Carolina Central. Bryan Mills. 5. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

One of the biggest sleepers in the entire 2021 NFL Draft, North Carolina Central cornerback Bryan Mills could be another quality developmental option for the Chicago Bears in the later rounds. Mills is a long, leggy press corner with an aggressive style of play that would make him a great fit in Chicago.

After dominating in his lone season at the FCS level in 2019 (opted out in 2020), Mills was invited to the Senior Bowl where he proved he can keep up with some of the top talents around the country. He showed great anticipation all week long and made several impressive plays on the football.

The Bears are pretty thin at the corner position at the moment and Mills would provide them with some intriguing potential on the outside.

2021 NFL mock draft: Round 6, 228th Overall

811. Nick Eubanks. 6. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. TE. Michigan

To round out this 2021 Chicago Bears seven-round mock draft, I have them taking Nick Eubanks with the 228th pick. With Jimmy Graham’s contract coming to an end after this season, the keys to TE1 will be handed to 2020 second-round pick, Cole Kmet. That leaves an opening as that second option for 12 personnel sets and Eubanks could give them that piece.

Eubanks didn’t have a ton of production with the Wolverines but he did prove to be an athletic player with red-zone ability. With no expectation to produce right away, Eubanks could develop over time into that TE2 that the Bears will need in the future.
