2021 NFL mock draft: Round 1, 6th overall

player. 59. . TE. Miami Dolphins. Kyle Pitts. 6

The Miami Dolphins will likely be targeting an impact pass catcher at No. 6 and deciding between Ja’Marr Chase and Kyle Pitts, as they do in this 2021 NFL mock draft, would be an ideal scenario. The choice between Chase and Pitts is not easy but the overall ability of Pitts at the tight end position gives him the edge.

In Pitts, the Dolphins would be adding arguably the best non-quarterback in the entire draft class. Pitts is an absolute matchup nightmare at the tight end position, proving to be big and powerful for most defensive backs to handle and too explosive for most linebackers.

He is an elite playmaker at the tight end position who can line up all over the field to create those difficult matchup situations. Adding him to the mix in Miami would undoubtedly help the development of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

2021 NFL mock draft: Round 1, 7th overall

50. . WR. Detroit Lions. Ja'Marr Chase. 7. player

After being heavily considered with each of the last two picks, Ja’Marr Chase lands softly to the Detroit Lions here at No. 7. Chase is the top wide receiver in this draft class, showing an impressive ability to separate from the defense and create after the catch. Chase is an impact receiver at all three levels of the field and should be able to come in and make a massive immediate impact no matter where he lands.

The Lions have a huge need at the wide receiver position but they do not need to force a selection at the position. That being said, Chase landing in their laps at No. 7 would be ideal as this would be a scenario where the best player available on the board also fills a major need for the team.

2021 NFL mock draft: Round 1, 8th overall

8. player. 87. . CB. Carolina Panthers. Patrick Surtain II

The Carolina Panthers would love to luck into either Kyle Pitts or Penei Sewell at No. 8 but that does not happen in this 2021 NFL mock draft. Offensive lineman Rashawn Slater would be a strong pick for the team but cornerback Patrick Surtain II also needs to be in the conversation.

The Panthers are putting together a talented young defensive unit but have an obvious need for a number one cornerback. Surtain is an extremely talented and reliable player who could quickly grow into that premier top cornerback for the team.
