2021 NFL mock draft: 21st pick

Pick Analysis. EDGE. Michigan. Kwity Paye. 21. 46. Scouting Report. player

Colts GM/HC: Chris Ballard/Frank Reich

In the initial stages of building this mock draft, I had the Colts trading this selection to the Baltimore Ravens to acquire offensive tackle Orlando Brown Jr.

The Kansas City Chiefs struck a deal to acquire Brown in the midst of me writing this blurb.

Alas, the fortunate news for me (and the Indianapolis Colts) is that Kwity Paye makes sense in this selection slot.

Some feel like Paye is the best edge rusher in this draft class, and while that might be a bit of projection, there is no denying Paye’s physical skills. He has tremendous size and quickness along with raw power, but his skills are a bit unrefined at this point.

The Colts could easily go after an offensive tackle here with this selection, but with the Chiefs acquiring Brown, it now makes more sense that the Colts would be a team to go and get a guy like Eric Fisher after the draft and fill that left tackle void with another veteran.

As obvious as the Colts’ need at left tackle is, where are the guys who are going to bring heat off the edge?

The Colts could still try to bring back free agent Justin Houston as a veteran piece, but they need some playmakers off the edge. There is undoubtedly a chance that Paye could be that as a rookie.
