2021 NFL mock draft: 12th pick

Scouting Report. South Carolina. 12. player. 54. Pick Analysis. CB. Jaycee Horn

Eagles GM/HC: Howie Roseman/Nick Sirianni

After trading down from the sixth overall selection, the Philadelphia Eagles have sent a signal fire to everyone that they are kind of, sort of, not so subtly rebuilding.

The Eagles made the bold move to trade away quarterback Carson Wentz even though they were barely into their long-term investment in him. Wentz took a big enough step backwards in 2020 that the Eagles decided to not only move on from him, but the head coach that helped them win a Super Bowl — Doug Pederson.

Will the Eagles move forward with Jalen Hurts at the quarterback position? They obviously don’t have any interest in drafting one of the top quarterbacks from this class or they would have stayed put with the sixth overall pick.

So, it’s either Hurts or veteran Joe Flacco, who has become a journeyman in recent years.

The Eagles could also trade away Zach Ertz sometime between now and the 2021 NFL Draft, and you almost expect that to happen with everything else that’s gone down.

What can the Eagles do with this pick? All of the top three receivers and Kyle Pitts are gone. Again, that’s the bed this team made. The best defensive players in this class are probably defensive backs, and Jaycee Horn will contend with Patrick Surtain to be the top defensive player off the board.

Horn fits the bill in what Howie Roseman has coveted in recent drafts — speed, speed, and more speed.

In fact, Horn’s athletic profile might be the best ever for a cornerback prospect.

Height, weight, speed, length, NFL bloodlines, production, upside, attitude…it’s all there for Jaycee Horn. Just like with Patrick Surtain, there are no sure things in the NFL Draft, but this guy feels like he’s about as close as you can get at a very valuable position.
