Detroit Lions find stability in 7-round 2021 NFL mock draft
Do not be surprised to see the Detroit Lions trading down at some point in the 2021 NFL Draft. Moving down the board a bit to find more bites at the apple only makes sense for a rebuilding team. In the second round of this NFL mock draft, the Lions move down six spots in a trade with the Los Angeles Rams.
In exchange for moving down, the Lions swap their fourth-round pick for a third and also pick up a fifth-round selection. With plenty of interesting talent remaining, this would be a wise move for a rebuilding squad like the Detroit Lions to make.
Detroit Lions 2021 NFL mock draft: Round 2, 47th overall
After moving down a handful of spots in the second round, the Lions find themselves in a good position to add an impact player in the secondary. Asante Samuel Jr. is not the biggest cornerback prospect around but he is a smooth and dependable coverage player who attacks the ball in the air extremely well. Samuel displays quick feet has a knack for mirroring opposing receivers in man coverage. On top of that, he shows fantastic natural instincts when asked to play zone.
Simply put, Asante Samuel Jr. is a talented cornerback prospect who has a high ceiling at the next level. Snagging him in the second round and pairing him with Jeff Okudah would give the Lions one of the most exciting young cornerback duos in the entire NFL. This team would still have a lot of work to do on the defensive side of the ball, but a cornerback duo of Okudah and Samuel could grow into something special.
