Dallas Cowboys 7-round 2021 mock draft: Bolstering the secondary
By Tyler Kirk
Round 3
With the 75th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select Milton Williams. What Williams brings to the Cowboys is interior pass rush. Williams is so explosive with his rushes upfield. I love the potential he brings to the Cowboys for the future. There is a reason why some teams have first-round grades on him.
The Cowboys already have two young defensive tackles in Trysten Hill and Neville Gallimore. With the addition of Williams, they have three rushers that can provide some juice inside. While Williams is explosive and has the potential to become the Cowboys’ best inside pass rusher, he does have limitations. Williams is still trying to develop the right playing weight to dominate at the next level. He will need to gain weight at the next level to really compete vs centers and guards.
If somehow Williams is there at 75 the Cowboys should rush to the podium. Quite frankly, I can see a scenario where the Cowboys regard him so highly that at 44 they could select him, or if they trade down from 10 they can take him in the late first. There will be mixed reviews with Williams if he will gain weight and become a base end or if his best position will be inside at the 3-tech spot.
With the 99th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select tackle James Hudson. This selection brings more depth to a Cowboys offensive line that has great depth inside at center and guard but needs more help at tackle. With Tyron Smith and La’el Collins missing most of the season last year, tackle depth is the top offensive priority.
Hudson is a long and powerful tackle that has all the tools to be successful at the next level. Hudson has the power and light feet to make the transition to the next level at tackle and compete for the swing spot year one. He does a great job in zone blocking schemes moving to a spot.
At the next level Hudson is going to need to refine his technique. He lacks refinement in that area but makes up for it with his balance in his lower body. I think that the Cowboys will be in good shape if Tyron or La’el go down with depth pieces they have in Brandon Knight and Terence Steele, and now James Hudson.
We all know that games are won in the trenches so don’t be surprised if the Cowboys decided to select a tackle earlier in the draft, maybe at ten?
