NFL mock draft 2021: Justin Fields, Trey Lance help make history
By Evan Bachman
On a roster with so many needs, I think the Jets will just look for good value with their second first-rounder, which they acquired from the Seahawks in the Jamal Adams trade.
For the Fighting Irish, Jeremiah Owusu-Karamoah was very effective as a run defender, pass rusher, and in coverage leading him to win the Butkus Award, as the nation’s top linebacker last year.
He is a very unique defender who’s capable of doing all sorts of things. At Notre Dame, he played linebacker, but he lined up all over the field as in 2020 he took 215 snaps from the box, 328 snaps from the slot, and 88 snaps from the defensive line, according to PFF.
With Alejandro Villaneuva likely on the way out, offensive tackle is the main priority for the Steelers in this NFL mock draft. Samuel Cosmi could likely step in and start right away for a Steelers offense that needs offensive line help.
Cosmi has three seasons of solid play at Texas that he can point to and say that’s why you should be confident about him translating to the NFL. His last season was his best season as he only allowed 8 pressures all year, according to PFF, and was good as a run-blocker as well.
In pass protection, does a good job of getting set quickly after the snap, playing fairly loose and flexible, and staying on his toes.
In run blocking, he’s nothing special, but he’s solid, he has the strength to move defenders. While he doesn’t really get out in space to make blocks, but he maintains good posture and leverage and finishes his blocks.
