NFL mock draft 2021: Justin Fields, Trey Lance help make history
By Evan Bachman
With corner being one of the Cardinals’ biggest needs and Jaycee Horn being one of the best players on the board, they get good value.
The opinions on Horn are pretty divided, some out there think he’s the top corner in the class, while others don’t see him as a first-round pick.
There’s no doubting how athletic he is, at his pro day he ran a 4.39 40 yard dash and recorded a 41.5-inch vertical leap. At 6-foot-1, 205 pounds he also has good size to go along with his athleticism, giving him ideal traits to be a good press man-to-man corner.
One encouraging thing is he’s played some elite competition in his time at South Carolina, so he’s very battle-tested, making the transition to the NFL smoother for him than other corners.
What I think puts Surtain and Farley ahead of him as prospects are they’ve graded out better in coverage, they both have seasons with a coverage grade of above 88, while Horn’s highest coverage grade is last season at 78.0.
