NFL mock draft 2021: Justin Fields, Trey Lance help make history
By Evan Bachman
The Giants have plenty of areas that they could address, so I think they just go with the best player available here. In this scenario that’s the speedy linebacker from Penn State.
Micah Parsons is a remarkable talent, who could easily go top five in drafts with less elite talent at premium positions like this one has. Parsons will come into the league as one of the fastest linebackers in the league, as he recently recorded a 4.39 40-yard dash at his pro day.
That blazing speed shows up on tape, as he is a sideline-to-sideline defender. He’s as good against the run as you can ask for, not only can you fly to ball carriers, but he’s also a very consistent tackler.
Parsons is also very good as a pass rusher as he recorded five sacks and 26 pressures in 2019 at Penn State. He is capable of rushing the quarterback from his traditional linebacker position and he can line up outside the tackle like a defensive end does and rush the passer.
The biggest concern for Parsons is that he had some struggles in coverage at Penn State, he wasn’t awful by any means, but just not as good as he was in other areas. However, he certainly does have the physical traits to become good in coverage at the next level.
