Round Four

CB. Scouting Report. 121. player. 47. College Stats. LSU. Kary Vincent Jr

Running track for the LSU Tigers alongside his ventures in football, cornerback Kary Vincent Jr is a multi-purpose defender with elite speed. Playing both boundary corner and free safety in the Tiger’s defense, Vincent used his 4.33 speed to match speedy receivers and reach from sideline to sideline from centerfield.

As mentioned, the New England Patriots’ long-term future in the defensive backfield is currently murky with a combination of contracts all ending in the near future. After making the bold selection of Caleb Farley in the first round of this 2021 NFL mock draft, the New England Patriots could look to complement him with a relatively safe mid-round option fitting their old of speedy man-corners.

HB. 47. Scouting Report. UCLA. Demetric Felton. 123. player. College Stats

Likely the most notable participant in the senior bowl, UCLA hybrid receiving-back Demetric Felton failed to up his stock much more following a mediocre pro day performance. At 189 pounds, Felton will likely be used almost exclusively as a receiving back, capable of splitting out in motion to present a mismatch option from the slot.

Despite showing effective breakaway speed on tape, Felton only ran a 4.55 at his pro day. This likely won’t knock his athleticism in the eyes of many scouts though as much of his game is premised around short-area quickness and agility.

With longstanding receiving back James White only returning on a one-year deal, the Patriots could be in the market for a new check down target to pair alongside whichever quarterback is taking snaps under center. With a year to add further bulk and potentially find a role on special teams, Felton could be the quintessential New England Patriot.

Scouting Report. College Stats. QB. Wake Forest. Jamie Newman. 140. player. 47

After opting out of the 2020 season, Wake Forest quarterback Jamie Newman fell into the shadows of the 2021 NFL Draft class. Unable to showcase his talents on a national stage with the Georgia Bulldog’s, Newman could be one of a number of prospects from this year’s class who fall through the cracks of player evaluation without a conventional final collegiate season.

Eerily similar to incumbent quarterback Cam Newton in both his throwing mechanics and style of play, Newman would be an instantaneous fit into the current New England Patriots offense. Tough carries between the tackles, arm strength to reach the boundary downfield, and confidence throwing off-platform are just some of the numerous strengths shared between Newman and Newton.
