Buffalo Bills NFL Draft 2021: 5 late-round sleepers to target
5. Rashad Weaver, Defensive End, Pittsburgh
If the Buffalo Bills do not land a top edge prospect in the first couple rounds of the 2021 NFL Draft, or even if they do, targeting a player like Rashad Weaver on day three would be a very smart move.
Rashad Weaver is a very talented and well-rounded defensive end that I think is severely underrated. Coming out of a stacked defense in Pittsburgh, Weaver may be getting overlooked by some of his teammates.
As an edge rusher, Weaver has great explosiveness and bend. At 6-foot-4 and 265 pounds, Weaver has a desired blend of size, power, and athleticism. While he can be a little too aggressive at times, Weaver’s first step and motor are great tools that he can utilize at the next level.
As a member of the Buffalo Bills, Rashad Weaver could fill a variety of roles. He can play left or right defensive end in Sean McDermott and Leslie Frazier’s 4-3 defense. He could even bump inside on rushing downs if need be.
Bringing in a high-floor, relatively high-ceiling player like Weaver in the fifth-round range of the 2021 NFL Draft would be a great idea for a team like the Buffalo Bills. Even if the team takes an edge defender earlier in the draft, Weaver would be a great depth piece that could fill in at multiple spots across the defensive line, possibly developing into a solid starter in the NFL.
