San Francisco 49ers mock draft: Mac Jones leads a deep class
By Kyle Edmond
Round 6, Pick 194
The San Francisco 49ers always seem to find stud running backs and although they still have Jeff Wilson and Raheem Mostert, they could still look to add another back in this draft. Here, they opt for a Razorback in Rakeem Boyd.
Taking a road through Netflix’s ‘Last Chance U’ Boyd became a captain at Arkansas this past season and would bring a power back approach to San Francisco as opposed to the speed of the current unit. Over 30 games with Arkansas Boyd ran for 2,176 yards and 13 touchdowns while adding 358 receiving yards.
He has a bit more mileage on him due to a different path to the draft, but he’s still a strong player that would add a new dynamic to the 49ers’ running game.
Round 7, Pick 230
The 49ers don’t have a dire need for a wide receiver, but like many of these late rounds picks a depth selection wouldn’t be a bad idea. Especially with a rookie quarterback, taking a wide receiver who can walk in the door with him can play a big role in progression.
Jaelon Darden is a smaller receiver, standing at just 5-foot-9 and weighing in at 174, but that fits the Taylor Gabriel frame that Kyle Shanahan has used in his career. Darden also put together an impressive 2020 season, hauling in 19 touchdowns while amassing 1,190 yards after having 12 touchdowns in 2019.
That many touchdowns at that size is a formula that fits perfectly into this offensive scheme. Darden could end up being a huge contributor for San Francisco if they call his name.
