Second-round: 45th overall – OT Jalen Mayfield, Michigan Wolverines

With the 45th overall pick, I went with a selection that provided the Jacksonville Jaguars with depth now, and perhaps a starting offensive lineman later down the road. The Jaguars seem to have their starting offensive line set, specifically on the interior with Andrew Norwell and Brandon Linder. However, the outside is a different story.

The Jacksonville Jaguars seem to like where they’re at with Cam Robinson at left tackle and Jawaan Taylor at right tackle, but that doesn’t mean they should be content. The play of Robinson and Taylor hasn’t been great. Jacksonville gave up 44 sacks last season, which was the 26th most in the NFL. This is why I decided to draft Michigan offensive tackle Jalen Mayfield.

While at Michigan, Mayfield primarily played right tackle. However, he does have some experience playing left tackle, and I believe he can play either position in the NFL. If either Cam Robinson or Jawaan Taylor aren’t playing at a high level this season, Mayfield gives the Jaguars another option to protect their rookie quarterback.

It may take some time before Mayfield is ready to take over one spot as the full-time starter, but for now, he can at least give the Jaguars depth along the offensive line and fill in where he’s needed.
