First-round: 1st overall – QB Trevor Lawrence, Clemson Tigers

With the first overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, I went with the obvious choice. The Jaguars need to find their franchise quarterback, and Lawrence is the best quarterback in this draft. The Jacksonville Jaguars have been searching for their franchise quarterback for quite some time, and now they’ve finally got him.

After leading the Clemson Tigers to a National Championship as a freshman, and leading them to a 34-2 record with him as the starter in three seasons, I think it’s safe to say the Jacksonville Jaguars have their franchise guy. Trevor Lawrence is no Blaine Gabbert. He’s no Blake Bortles.

He’s the quarterback who teams have wanted to draft since he stepped on the football field at Clemson, and now the Jacksonville Jaguars get their hands on him. This was by far the easiest decision I had to make.

While drafting Lawrence filled the Jacksonville Jaguars’ biggest need, it also provided them with depth. Now they have the best quarterback in the 2021 NFL Draft, but they also have a great backup quarterback in Gardner Minshew. Minshew hasn’t exactly won a lot of games for the Jaguars, but he hasn’t been the primary reason they’ve lost games either.

There’s still a chance Minshew could be moved, but holding on to him would be smart. If Trevor Lawrence were to go down for any reason, Minshew provides them with a more than capable quarterback to try and keep them competitive.
