2021 NFL Draft needs for well-rounded Buffalo Bills roster
5. Safety
Safety does not seem like a need for the Buffalo Bills when looking at their roster heading into the 2021 NFL Draft. Bear with me here.
Although they didn’t grade out as highly with PPF this year as in seasons past, Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer have been one of the best safety tandems in the league since the two came together in Buffalo in 2017.
But with the Buffalo Bills in a tight salary situation as it stands, and with a Josh Allen contract looming large potentially this offseason, the Bills may run out of funds to keep everyone in the coming years.
Both Hyde and Poyer are at least under contract through this season and next, but both are on rather team-friendly deals compared to the current safety market. One or both may demand an extension and it could put the Buffalo Bills in a tough spot.
If the Buffalo Bills can find value at the safety position in the 2021 NFL Draft, it could help alleviate some of this future stress that may come up with Hyde and Poyer. The team would surely love to keep the pair together, but if money, time or injuries won’t allow it, it would be smart for the team to try to get ahead of it and address the position in the 2021 NFL Draft.
