NFL mock draft 2021: 49ers snag Mac Jones; Broncos trade up for QB
2021 NFL mock draft: Round 1, 5th overall
With quarterbacks flying off of the board with the first four picks of this NFL mock draft, the Cincinnati Bengals have their choice of essentially any player they could possibly want here at No. 5. This is a tough decision that likely comes down LSU wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase and Oregon offensive tackle Penei Sewell.
Protecting Joe Burrow with an impressive offensive tackle prospect like Sewell is tempting, but Burrow and Chase made magic happen together at LSU. Putting them back together is a move that would be difficult to argue against.
Chase is the best wide receiver prospect in the 2021 NFL Draft class. Adding him to the mix would give Burrow a true No. 1 target to work with, rounding out their wide receiver room nicely. This team undoubtedly needs a lot of offensive line help but this class is loaded with offensive line talent, allowing the Bengals to address another need early and address their situation up front later in the draft.
2021 NFL mock draft: Round 1, 6th overall
When the Miami Dolphins moved back up the board to No. 6 from No. 12, they likely did so with a particular prospect in mind. That prospect is likely a pass-catcher of some kind, with Ja’Marr Chase and Kyle Pitts being the most likely candidates. It is certainly possible that the Dolphins have their eyes on DeVonta Smith and/or Jaylen Waddle with this pick but Kyle Pitts is a special talent at the tight end position who would undoubtedly take their offensive attack to the next level.
Pitts is an absolute matchup nightmare who is simply too big and powerful for most opposing defensive backs and too quick and explosive for most opposing linebackers. He is a dynamic contested-catch receiver, shines in run-after-catch situations and can use his speed to stretch the field in the deep passing game.
Pitts is essentially a wide receiver who can line up all over the field and make plays as an offensive weapon. However, do not sleep on his ability to compete as an inline tight end and create difficult matchups for teams in the middle of the field. The Miami Dolphins undoubtedly need to add an impact playmaker in the passing game and Pitts can fill that role for the team in a unique way.
