Denver Broncos mock draft: Trey Lance leads 7-round haul
The Denver Broncos were able to bring back veteran Kareem Jackson on a one-year, $5 million deal after initially declining his team option for the 2021 season.
Jackson is in his age 33 season and despite playing really well in his first two years in Denver, there is no doubt that the future has to be considered here at least somewhat.
Enter Richie Grant, arguably the best overall safety prospect in this year’s class. He has tremendous range on the back end and fits, almost to a ‘T’ what Vic Fangio likes to do defensively.
Especially with the two-high looks you see from Fangio’s shell defense these days, Grant is the type of ball-hawk who could step in and give you quality play early on.
One thing the Denver Broncos have surprisingly struggled with through the first two seasons of the Vic Fangio era is at creating turnovers. Safety Justin Simmons has been one of the team’s only consistent sources of turnovers, and Grant could be a guy who changes that.
In his time with UCF, he had 10 interceptions and seven forced fumbles. This guy does a tremendous job of reading the quarterback and coming up to make violent hits. If the Broncos feel good about the rest of their roster going into the second round, a player like Grant really makes a lot of sense.
