Scouting Report

After selecting USC tackle Austin Jackson in the first round of last year’s draft, the Miami Dolphins still hold questions around his long-term viability. Rumored to have been in on Oregon tackle Penei Sewell, the Miami Dolphins could work their way back into the top of the 2021 NFL Draft order to add an offensive lineman capable of functioning inside whilst Jackson is evaluated more fully.

Excelling through a pass-rusher gauntlet in his 2019 season with Northwestern, left tackle Rashawn Slater played above his physical profile against the likes of Chase Young and Yetur Gross-Matos with solid technique and superior mobility. Despite running a 4.88 40 and putting up 33 reps of 225 on the bench press, Slater has been slated to the distinction of ‘guard’ with his 33-inch reach.

Placed along the interior offensive line in place of Ereck Flowers, Slater would not only bolster a Miami offensive line needing to provide more support to its rushing attack but would offer depth across the entirety of the offensive line in case of injury.
