2021 NFL Mock Draft: 16th pick

32. CB. Northwestern. Greg Newsome II. 16. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. player

The Arizona Cardinals have had a heck of an offseason, haven’t they?

They signed JJ Watt after he was released by the Texans. They signed AJ Green to pair with DeAndre Hopkins. They added Rodney Hudson to their offensive line.

The job being done the last couple of offseasons by Steve Keim has really helped turn this franchise around. Who knows where they would be if they had simply stuck with Josh Rosen because he was their first-round pick the year prior?

Defensively, the Cardinals still need some help. Specifically, in the defensive backfield.

Everyone is talking about Patrick Surtain, Jaycee Horn, and Caleb Farley this offseason, but more people should be talking about Northwestern’s Greg Newsome II.

Newsome is every bit as big, long, and athletic as those other top guys in this class and he has some really good tape.

Although injuries are somewhat of a concern, Newsome is exactly the type of cornerback that can work well in Vance Joseph’s defense. With the veterans up front on the defensive line creating pressure, Newsome would have a chance to really rack up interceptions as a rookie taking advantage of quick (bad) decisions by the quarterbacks he goes up against.
