2021 NFL Mock Draft: 13th pick

Pick Analysis. WR. Alabama. DeVonta Smith. 13. Scouting Report. 13. player

Although the Los Angeles Chargers definitely need to address the offensive line, they cannot pass up the kind of value DeVonta Smith presents here with the 13th overall selection.

Smith won the Heisman Trophy in 2020 and was undoubtedly the best player in the country.

Dating back to the 2019 season, Smith has been one of the more underrated players in the country and it was great to see him get recognized with the Heisman after his unreal 2020 campaign.

Smith is very slight for the receiver position (hovering around 170 pounds) but it hasn’t proven to be a detriment for him up to this point.

As a route runner, Smith is top-notch. He has strong hands and wins at all levels of the field. Although he’s not the same type of burner as Jaylen Waddle or Henry Ruggs III, Smith has good speed and can blow by guys.

One way or another, the Chargers have to find a way to support Justin Herbert with this selection. Smith doesn’t play on the offensive line but he would provide Herbert with yet another weapon that can get open easily, and the Chargers do have to find a way to replace Hunter Henry as one of the top three options in their passing game.
