Philadelphia Eagles: Trade targets in the 2021 NFL Draft
By David Glancy
With several positional needs and a young quarterback, the Eagles are likely going to stand firm with the 12th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. However, after trading back once already, Roseman could look to add additional draft capital and trade back a few slots for the second time in the first round. In a scenario where the Philadelphia Eagles miss out on prospects such as Slater, Waddle, Smith, Horn, or Micah Parsons, the Eagles could be tempted with another trade.
A second trade down would indicate either the Eagles lost out on a top prospect or that they believe they are in a position to take advantage of deep positional classes and add future value either in the 2021 or 2022 Draft. Virginia Tech cornerback Caleb Farley or offensive tackle Christian Darrisaw could be potential trade down targets if the Eagles do in fact look to add more picks.
Farley entered the college football season as arguably the top-ranked corner in the 2021 NFL Draft class but has seen his stock fall below both Horn and Alabama’s Patrick Surtain II after his decision to opt out of the season. While Farley has the tape and measurables, recent back surgery could see him fall towards the back end of the first round.
In a scenario where the Eagles miss out at 12, they could look to trade down with a number of teams between the 12-25 range, including the New York Jets who could move some of their draft capital in an effort to add a top receiver around what should be Zach Wilson. The Eagles could take on additional draft picks and possibly the most talented cornerback in the class.
Likewise, after missing out on both Sewell and Slater, the Eagles could look to once again move back and still take one of the top linemen in the Draft. With several teams looking for help at offensive line, the Eagles couldn’t move back as far as the 20 range and still select a top prospect but could move into the teens and select offensive tackle Christian Darrisaw or USC’s versatile Alijah Vera-Tucker.
