Round 6 Pick 216: Shemar Jean-Charles, CB, Appalachian State

With the Steelers’ selection in the sixth round, they go with corner-back Shemar Jean-Charles. The Pittsburgh Steelers did decide to let go Steven Nelson this off-season because of money so many people may feel they need to draft a corner early in this draft. Although they did let go of Nelson they did sign Cameron Sutton, still have veteran leader Joe Haden, and have two young guys in Justin Layne and undrafted rookie James Pierre who may take over the slot position after the departure of Mike Hilton if develops properly.

Shemar Jean-Charles maybe isn’t as big and athletic as other corners, standing at 5-foot-11, 190 pounds, but has a lot of good attributes that could develop him into a nice outside corner in this league. Jean-Charles has great hip flexibility and is patient in coverage to not jump or bite on routes and double moves.

Jean-Charles stays in a good position and has a qualified football IQ but lacks speed and size which is the main reason he is going in the sixth-round to the Pittsburgh Steelers in this draft. Shemar Jean-Charles could be a nice option to throw outside along with Justin Layne to have a young nucleus of outside cover corners to develop, switch Cameron Sutton both inside and out, and continue to let James Pierre develop at the slot position.
