Round 3 Pick 87: Jamin Davis, LB, Kentucky

The Pittsburgh Steelers over the years have sought out fast, freakish build, dynamic athletes for Keith Butler’s defense. With the cutting of veteran Vince Williams this off-season they need to fill the position in the middle of their defense. A guy who has a big frame and speed to line up next to Devin Bush for seasons to come is Jamin Davis.

Jamin Davis is a long framed inside backer who stands at 6-foot-4 and weighs around 235 pounds. He also displays great speed for the position, ran a 4.64 forty at his pro day, to shoot gaps, run stunts, and attack on inside blitzes. Only really having one year of good tape, Davis is a raw prospect who needs development in areas like pass coverage. Although Davis has great gap closing speed and solid tackling ability at his time playing for the Wildcats, Davis could make an immediate impact on defense and special teams.

The Pittsburgh Steelers did bring back Robert Spillane who replaced the injured Devin Bush and had a nice couple of games before getting injured as well later in the season. Spillane is most likely going to be the day one starter, but Jamin Davis could learn and improve behind Spillane while he polishes off some flaws to his game. The Pittsburgh Steelers could be an even more scary defense with another freak athlete like Jamin Davis lining up with Devin Bush in the second level of that defense.
