Green Bay Packers: Top team needs entering 2021 NFL Draft
3. Offensive Line
The Green Bay Packers lost a key piece of the offensive line via free agency in Corey Linsley. He’s head to Los Angeles and now the Packers have a hole there. It’s possible they move Elgton Jenkins over to center from guard, as he does have plenty of experience (26 starts in his last two collegiate seasons). Green Bay did draft Jake Hanson in 2020, but in a year where preseason and camp didn’t happen it’s hard to imagine he steps in.
The Packers also let go of tackle Rick Wagner, and while Billy Turner has experience in that area, finding a long-term solution makes sense in the draft.
Tackle is one of the most likely directions the Packers go in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Someone who fits the bill at right tackle is Oklahoma State’s Teven Jenkins. Jenkins is a mauler in the run game, an excellent finisher, and while his pass sets aren’t perfectly refined, he does solid work to be a day one contributor. It’s possible that Samuel Cosmi is available there, but if he isn’t, waiting for a developmental upside player like D’Ante Smith or Spencer Brown may make more sense for Green Bay.
At center, it’s fun to talk about the top names, but they don’t fit the outside zone/wide zone scheme that Matt LaFleur runs. Names like Drew Dalman, Jimmy Morrissey, and Kendrick Green make more sense for the Packers to take a chance on.
