1. Cornerback

Cornerback is a need that must be addressed for the Green Bay Packers in the 2021 NFL Draft. While re-signing King was a nice stopgap option based on familiarity, he isn’t the long-term solution. He could get back to his 2019 form, but 2020 could be an indicator that it’s time to move on. King struggled to carry receivers vertically down the field, and despite his great in-air athleticism, often mistimed jumps and didn’t track the football well.

The Packers have 10 picks in the 2021 NFL Draft, and there’s a chance they go corner multiple times. New defensive coordinator Joe Barry has emphasized the nickel position which is another indicator of how serious they could attack the position.

Green Bay likes good athletes, and there are plenty who fit the description in this draft. Northwestern’s Greg Newsome II has the versatility to plan off-man and zone coverage and has great timing at the catch point. He has the transitional quickness and speed to carry defenders vertically. He matches the temperament the Packers look for, as does Asante Samuel Jr. Samuel has great click-and-close abilities and is a fierce tackler who is physical in every aspect of the game.

The Georgia pair of Eric Stokes of Tyson Campbell are two others who make sense for the Packers. As far as the nickel position goes, look to the Pac 12. Paulson Adebo and Thomas Graham are great candidates for the position. Adebo has excellent ball skills and Graham has great mirror-match abilities.
