Chicago Bears mock draft: Round 2, 52nd overall

CB. Georgia. 2. player. Pick Analysis. Eric Stokes. 57. Scouting Report

One of the biggest losses the Chicago Bears suffered this offseason was when the team had to cut Kyle Fuller. While Fuller was never a shutdown corner he was a very solid starter and made a good tandem with Jaylon Johnson. The team signed Desmond Trufant to replace Fuller but Trufant has had trouble staying healthy only having played in 15 games over the past two seasons.

While Eric Stokes currently ranks as my fourth-best corner in the 2021 NFL Draft he is not expected to be taken until the 47th pick according to NFL Mock Draft Database, so there’s a good chance he will still be on the board when the Bears pick. What stands out with Stokes is his impressive combination of size and speed, as he measures in at 6-foot-1 and runs the 40-yard dash in 4.29 seconds.

Chicago Bears mock draft: Round 2, 61st overall

The Chicago Bears depth chart at quarterback is currently Andy Dalton and Nick Foles which is by far the worst depth chart in the NFL. Current starter Andy Dalton hasn’t had a winning season since 2015, and that included playing on a more talented Dallas offense and in a weak NFC East last season. Bear’s fans know what they have in Nick Foles, which unfortunately isn’t much.

Chicago might be able to get the steal of the quarterback class this year by trading a late second-rounder and a sixth-round draft pick to the New York Jets for quarterback Sam Darnold. The team would be able to get Darnold so cheap as the market for him has gotten much smaller since the start of the offseason as the only two teams who are still strong possibilities are Washington and Chicago.

While Darnold has had his share of struggles in the NFL, he has played behind a poor offensive line and his best receiver over the three years he was with the Jets was Jamison Crowder who would be a number three receiver for most teams. He also is only 23, which is the same age as Kyle Trask, who would be one of the Bear’s top options if they chose to draft a quarterback at this spot in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Chicago Bears mock draft: Round 3, 84th overall

Scouting Report. 57. WR. North Carolina. Dyami Brown. 3. player. Pick Analysis

While the Bears have a true number one wide receiver in Allen Robinson and love what they saw from 2020 fifth-round pick Darnell Mooney last year, they need to add depth at this position. Anthony Miller has been a disappointment since Chicago drafted him in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft, and the team has very little else at this position.

A player who has a similar game to Mooney is North Carolina’s Dyami Brown. Both of these receivers are playmakers with the ball in their hands which is an important trait in Chicago’s offense. Brown has also been a big-play threat while at North Carolina having had the most catches 20+ yards downfield in college football in the last two seasons according to Pro Football Focus.
