2021 NFL mock draft: Round 1, 3rd overall

42. Trey Lance. 3. player. Player Stats. Pick Analysis. QB. North Dakota State

The San Francisco 49ers made an aggressive move up the board on Friday and clearly have their eyes on the quarterback position. Even with Lawrence and Wilson off of the board, there is still plenty of exciting quarterback talent on the board and that is likely why the 49ers felt comfortable enough to make this trade so early. No matter how the first two picks play out, the 49ers are confident that they will be able to snag a true franchise quarterback At No. 3. In this 2021 NFL mock draft, Trey Lance is the pick.

Lance is one of the most naturally gifted quarterbacks in the 2021 NFL Draft class. He has a rocket for a right arm and is the best rushing quarterback in the entire class. Lance is an exciting dual-threat player who undoubtedly has massive upside at the next level.

Lance showed the ability to play within the structure of the offense at North Dakota State but can improvise when necessary. If the play breaks down, Lance has a knack for escaping the pocket and creating with his legs and also does a nice job of keeping his eyes down the field.

Make no mistake about it, Trey Lance is an extremely talented quarterback prospect who has the ability to lead the 49ers to a ton of long-term success. He may not be ready to come in and make an immediate impact but Lance is an incredibly gifted player who is worth making this kind of major investment.
