NFL mock draft 2021: Justin Fields, Trey Lance land in perfect situations
2021 NFL mock draft: Round 1, 2nd overall
The New York Jets could move forward with Sam Darnold as their starting quarterback. Darnold has undoubtedly been a disappointment early in his career, but he entered the league with a ton of natural talent and has was not exactly put in an ideal situation to succeed with the Jets. However, New York has put together a strong new coaching staff and they may be able to get more out of Darnold.
It is true that the Jets did not put Darnold in a great position to succeed, but he has had ample opportunity to prove himself. Moving forward with a new franchise quarterback feels like the best bet for the New York Jets and they have an opportunity to find the right guy with the No. 2 overall pick.
All signs point to Zach Wilson being the pick for the Jets at No. 2. Wilson is coming off of an incredible season at BYU where he completed 73.5% of his passes for 3,692 yards, 33 touchdowns and only three interceptions. Wilson was one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in college football this past season and it is easy to see why he has major upside at the next level.
Wilson is a tremendous natural playmaker who does a great job of escaping pressure and creating when the play breaks down. He has fantastic improvisational skills, displays good natural arm talent and places the ball well at all times. Wilson is an exciting dual-threat quarterback prospect who undoubtedly has exciting upside as an NFL quarterback. Moving on from Darnold and taking a quarterback at No. 2 feels like the best play for the Jets and Wilson would be a solid choice.
