NFL mock draft 2021: Justin Fields, Trey Lance land in perfect situations
2021 NFL mock draft: Round 1, 11th overall
The New York Giants are another team that has done a nice job of finding impact talent at important positions of need in free agency this offseason. Most notably, the additions of wide receiver Kenny Golladay and cornerback Adoree Jackson allow the Giants much flexibility in the 2021 NFL Draft. The Giants do not have to reach for need but arguably the best player available happens to fill a need for the team.
Micah Parsons is the first defensive player off of the board in this 2021 NFL mock draft, as the Giants scoop him up here at No. 11. Parsons is an extremely active and athletic linebacker prospect who shows impressive playmaking ability in the middle of the field.
He is a feisty run defender who shows great range at the second level and impressive block shed ability. Parsons has fantastic instincts against the run and also shows exciting upside as a pass rush player. Parsons stands out as a dangerous weapon in the blitz game, using his combination of speed and power to create pressure up the middle. He can even line up on the edge and create pressure bending around the corner.
Pass coverage is the biggest weakness in Parsons’ game. He has the size/speed combination to be an impact player in this area but does not display ideal instincts in coverage at this point in his career. Parsons tends to panic in man coverage and does not seem to track the ball well in the air. If he can grow in this area, he will immediately be a premier NFL linebacker. Either way, his ability as a run defender and pass rusher makes him a worthy target in this range.
