2021 NFL Draft: Washington trades up for Justin Fields in NFL mock draft
By Kyle Edmond
From one championship team to another, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers take Christian Barmore to round out the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. While the Buccaneers could use this pick a few different ways, Barmore is the best fit. As of now, they brought back Ndamukong Suh on the defensive line, but only for one year, so Barmore can slide right in as the replacement next to Vita Vea next year while rotating this year.
Barmore exhibited an ability to get into the backfield while at Alabama, making him a strong fit for a 3-4 defense in the way that he can create pressure from the line to help the edge rushers like Shaq Barrett and Jason Pierre-Paul. During the 2020 season, Barmore registered 9.5 tackles for loss with eight sacks and three forced fumbles. Those stats could easily see him go higher, but in this case, he falls all the way to Tampa Bay.
If the Bucs decide to go a different direction with this pick, I could see maybe a running back since they are set to lose Leonard Fournette and LeSean McCoy. However, with Ronald Jones and Ke’Shawn Vaughn still on the roster, they can take a mid- or late-round running back and be just fine.
