There usually isn’t a whole lot of intrigue around late first-round picks. Most time the picks are by playoff teams that have one or two holes to fill at most, so figuring out at least the position is a bit easier. However, in the case of the New Orleans Saints, there is a lot of intrigue this draft season as it will tell us a lot about the Saints heading into the 2021 season.

As it currently stands, Taysom Hill and Jameis Winston look to be the quarterbacks for the Saints. They could take a quarterback here, but I foresee them trying the Hill experiment for a full season, meaning this pick could be used on something else.

With that being said, both cornerback and linebacker are possibilities for the Saints here, but given the available players, Eric Stokes seems to be the right pick. Stokes grabbed the attention of scouts this season with four interceptions, but his 40 time at his Pro Day only helped. The reports and videos are showing that Stokes ran a 4.25 40-yard dash.

That speed along with the four interceptions would be a great pairing to opposite Marshon Lattimore in New Orleans and a big upgrade for the Saints’ secondary.
