2021 NFL Draft: Washington trades up for Justin Fields in NFL mock draft
By Kyle Edmond
The Pittsburgh Steelers are dancing along the line of having a rebuild. They are still clinging to pieces to keep them afloat, but at some point, they are going to have multiple holes on the roster to fill, including quarterback eventually. Right now, they are still in win-now mode and will be until Ben Roethlisberger retires. To win though, they have to improve their offensive line.
Maurkice Pouncey retired leaving a hole in the middle of the offensive line, Alejandro Villanueva is still a free agent leaving the left tackle spot vacant and Matt Feiler left in free agency, leaving behind left guard. There’s still a chance that Villanueva resigns, but the other two spots are up for grabs.
Kevin Dotson, a 2020 fourth-round pick, is slated as the left guard so the Steelers can focus on center with this pick, taking the best in the class in Creed Humphrey. Having played 39 games at center for Oklahoma, Humphrey is experienced at the position and has an impressive resume that includes being a two-time First Team All-Big 12 as well as a second-team All-American in 2019 and then a third-team All-American in 2020.
If the Steelers want to get as many years as possible from Roethlisberger, they have to protect him and Humphrey will be a key cog in doing that.
