2021 NFL Draft: Washington trades up for Justin Fields in NFL mock draft
By Kyle Edmond
With two picks in the first round, the Miami Dolphins make two huge strides in improving their offense. While Ja’Marr Chase provides a massive weapon on the outside, Najee Harris might be the better pick for the Dolphins when it’s all said and done.
For starters, Harris already has chemistry with Tua Tagovailoa, which will be a big help to the growth and development of both players. Having that confidence in a running back for checkdowns is always helpful, especially when that running back can make plays the way that Harris can.
The upside for Harris is that he can do it both on the ground and through the air. He allotted over 1,000 rushing yards each of the last two seasons with 1,224 and 1,466, respectively while adding 304 receiving yards in 2019 and then 425 in 2020. He also found the end zone 20 times in 2019 before doing so 30 times in 2020.
Harris is an obvious playmaker and while I’m usually hesitant about Alabama running backs, Harris seems to lean closer to the Derrick Henry group rather than the Trent Richardson bunch. While it will be close between Harris and Travis Etienne for the first back off the board, the chemistry that is already established between Harris and Tagovailoa could be the difference of who gets picked here.
