2021 NFL Draft: Washington trades up for Justin Fields in NFL mock draft
By Kyle Edmond
This offseason, the New York Giants have done everything they can to add pieces on the offensive side of the ball with signings including Kenny Golladay, John Ross and Kyle Rudolph. However, for the most part, they’ve left the defensive side of the ball untouched. Adding veteran pieces around Daniel Jones makes sense, so now they can turn their attention to the defense in the draft.
Here, they start the process by taking a much-needed edge rusher. After sending Olivier Vernon to Cleveland a few seasons ago, the Giants have lacked a true edge presence and they can change that with this pick. Flying under the radar, Azeez Ojulari could be one of the better picks in the first round of this coming season.
Playing in the SEC at Georgia, he has proven himself against some of the top offensive lines in the country. During the 2020 season, Ojulari tallied 12.5 tackles for loss and an even more impressive 9.5 sacks over 10 games while also forcing four fumbles.
If the Giants are committed to Jones, which it seems like they are, then reinforcing the defense through the draft will be a must. Drafting Ojulari is a great start to controlling the trenches of the defensive side of the ball.
