Scouting Report. player. 45. 9. Pick Analysis. QB. Alabama. Mac Jones

I still think there is hope for Drew Lock, but John Elway isn’t the one calling the shots anymore. Elway didn’t have much luck with the position beyond signing Peyton Manning, so with someone else making the calls now in Denver, could a new quarterback be added again?

Prior to the start of the 2020 season, Mac Jones was nothing more than a game manager for Alabama. Someone who wouldn’t win you a game, but also not lose you a game. Now, he’s a National Champion and looks like a prototypical NFL quarterback and far from just a game manager.

For the Broncos, signing Kyle Fuller and Ronald Darby helped filled their needs at cornerback and they’ve been able to make comparable signings at most positions of need, except quarterback. The quarterback room is still just Lock, Brett Rypien and Jeff Driskel, making it seem like maybe they could be showing their hand a bit for their draft plans.

Signing a veteran like Andy Dalton, Ryan Fitzpatrick or even Mitchell Trubisky would have at least provided a strong backup, but they haven’t even done that. They are still left with three quarterbacks with skill sets questionable to their current roles, making Mac Jones make even more sense.
