2021 NFL Draft: Five quarterbacks go in Top 10 of new mock draft

The 2021 NFL Draft is just over a month away and with the announcement that fans will be allowed to attend in Cleveland, albeit a limited amount, there’s even more excitement about the three days. As we get closer, not only does excitement grow but so does the amount of mock drafts that are available.

My last mock draft was well before free agency began, so now the needs for teams entering the draft are becoming much more clear. One part of that is getting a grasp on which teams will be in the quarterback market. Teams like the Chicago Bears and New England Patriots have established a one-year band-aid fix at least, while teams like the New York Jets and Washington Football Team still have clear needs to find their franchise quarterback of tomorrow.

Considering those needs, the biggest takeaway from this mock that I noticed was that five quarterbacks go in the first 10 picks. A handful of first-round quarterbacks isn’t unheard of and is becoming almost common, but having five go in the first 10 just seemed absurd. That is until you break it down and realize that this year, it’s very possible. There are so many teams either already in a position to take a quarterback or within striking distance to make a reasonable move up in the order.

Another interesting point that I took away was the lack of trades with just four. I’m not sure if it’s teams being in position for needs or the top talent just not falling far enough down the order, but there were only a few times that a trade not only seemed necessary, but possible.

Enough talking about what I did. Here’s how my latest 2021 NFL Mock Draft unfolded through the first round as we approach the one-month marker from Draft Day.
