Jacksonville Jaguars mock draft: Round 1, 9th overall

Florida. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. TE. Kyle Pitts. 1. player. 52

With a pair of selections in both the first and second round of the 2021 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars can get aggressive and target specific players early if they wish. Tight end stands out as a major position of need for this team and if they want to get aggressive early, Kyle Pitts stands out as an obvious target.

Pitts is far and away the top tight end prospect in this class and undoubtedly has massive upside at the next level. If he starts to slip down the board a bit, the Jacksonville Jaguars should look to attack. That is exactly what they do in the first round of this mock draft.

In this mock trade, the Jags send the 25th and 33rd overall picks, along with a 2022 third-round selection, to the Denver Broncos in exchange for No. 9 overall. This would undoubtedly be a far drop down the board for Denver, but they are an obvious trade-down candidate and they come out ahead in value in this deal, according to Rich Hill’s trade chart.

Pairing Pitts with Lawrence would be something that dreams are made of for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Pitts is an incredibly gifted tight end prospect who is a consistent matchup nightmare on the field. He is simply too quick and athletic for most linebackers to handle and too big and strong for most defensive backs. He has the speed to stretch the field, shows extremely reliable hands and is particularly impressive when catching the ball in traffic. Pitts also shows exciting playmaking ability after the catch.

While Pitts is not a great blocker at this point in his career, he is solid in this area. He is a tough and willing blocker who is good enough in this aspect to line up as an inline tight end and make an impact.

An offensive attack featuring Pitts, DJ Chark, Marvin Jones and Laviska Shenault is incredibly exciting and would help Lawrence have immediate success at the next level. Simply put, Pitts is an absolute game-changer who would be worth this aggressive move up the board. With their first two picks of this mock draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars were able to add arguably the two best players in the entire draft class.
