Fourth round picks

4a. Dazz Newsome, WR, North Carolina

After letting Curtis Samuel walk in free agency, the Panthers have to do something to upgrade their offensive weaponry.

Robby Anderson turned out to be an excellent pickup for them last offseason, but he is in the second and final year of a two-year contract.

Dazz Newsome in the fourth round is an excellent value for the Panthers, getting a playmaker out of the slot who can do damage deep downfield with his speed but also after the catch. He can also take the ball out of the backfield and make some plays, so maybe there is something here in terms of him effectively replacing someone like Samuel in the Panthers’ offense.

4b. Tre Brown, DB, Oklahoma

With another pick acquired in the mock trade with the Miami Dolphins, the Panthers select a very fast, very versatile defensive back out of Oklahoma in Tre Brown.

Brown has tremendous speed and can make plays on the ball. He had three interceptions in 10 games this past season for the Sooners and finished his college career with 31 passes broken up overall.

With his man coverage abilities, Brown could be a day one nickel for the Panthers’ defense.
