Washington Football Team should sign free-agent WR Sammy Watkins

The Washington Football Team has done a nice job of using the early part of free agency to improve their stock of talent on both sides of the ball. Most notably, the team signed Ryan Fitzpatrick to be their starting quarterback, William Jackson III as a premier player at teh cornerback position and Curtis Samuel to be a dynamic offensive weapon.

Washington has undoubtedly improved through free agency this offseason but there are still some more moves to be made. When looking at the remaining talent on the open market, Sammy Watkins stands out as a nice under-the-radar player who would fit nicely with the Washington Football Team.

Watkins has under-performed throughout his NFL career. He was the fourth overall selection by the Buffalo Bills in the 2014 NFL Draft but has struggled with injuries throughout his seven-year career. That being said, Watkins still shows impressive playmaking ability when he is on the field. Watkins still has good speed, can win deep and shows a knack for finding space against zone coverage.

Still a good player who could be a massive value signing in free agency

He is an extremely well-rounded receiver who can still make a major offensive impact if he can stay healthy. Obviously, his health is a concern but that will be baked into his price in free agency. Watkins will be a massive free-agent steal if he can just stay healthy.

With Terry McLaurin leading the way, Washington already has a fantastic number one receiver on the roster. However, they do lack depth at the position and Watkins would certainly help in that department. Watkins is not a player who Washington should sign and act like their wide receiver need is gone. His injury history is obviously a concern. However, Watkins is undoubtedly a talented player who should be able to be added for a low cost. If nothing else, he would be a solid depth piece for the team.

At this point in free agency, teams are simply looking for value. Sammy Watkins is far from a perfect player but he still has exciting upside and could be a tremendous value signing. The Washington Football Team should undoubtedly see what it would take to bring him into their wide receiver room.
