New Orleans Saints key additions so far

The New Orleans Saints have not been raking in free agents from other teams because they literally cannot.

The Saints had to sign Taysom Hill to a phony $140 million contract with void years just to clear cap space in the 2021 offseason, but that hasn’t prevented them from retaining some key players.

Safety Marcus Williams is back as the franchise player. Jameis Winston is back on a one-year deal to compete to be the team’s starting quarterback. The Saints had to cut a number of key veteran players from their roster, but if things work out at quarterback, they have a chance to be competitive with the group they’ve assembled in 2021.

With that being said, the Saints need to address a couple of key areas on both sides of the ball. Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah of Notre Dame could play a variety of roles for this defense including some box safety, slot corner, and traditional off-ball linebacker, but he’s not going to be your traditional inside linebacker in the NFL.

Owusu-Koramoah’s versatility could help the Saints replace Kwon Alexander who ended up being a great pickup for them last year prior to the NFL’s in-season trade deadline.
