NFL Mock Draft 2021: 2 rounds post-free agency first wave
2021 NFL Mock Draft: 23rd pick
If the Jets are committing to Sam Darnold, they might as well go ahead and get him some additional protection.
With Kyle Pitts coming in in this mock draft scenario, the Jets’ offensive skill talent would be pretty respectable at least on paper:
- Kyle Pitts
- Denzel Mims
- Corey Davis
- Jamison Crowder
The Jets could definitely supplement that group with another running back as well as some more depth at receiver, but that’s a better crew than Sam Darnold has had (checks notes) ever in New York for sure.
Adding Mayfield to bookend Mekhi Becton would also ensure at least Darnold’s most talented offensive line, and if Mayfield continues to play the way he did in limited action this past season, it could be the best line Darnold has had as well.
Mayfield is a heck of an athlete who I think projects well to either tackle spot, and if he had a full season of work to go off of in 2020, I think we’d also be talking about him as a much higher selection overall.
