2021 NFL Draft: Ranking the top quarterback prospects with tiers
2021 NFL Draft: Quarterback Tier 5
QB6: Davis Mills, Stanford
The first five quarterbacks on this list are all likely top 15 picks and nearly guaranteed to go in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. However, the depth of this class is lacking and we may not see another quarterback go for a long time after QB5. Davis Mills is next up and he is an interesting mid-round target.
Mills is a former four-star recruit who landed at Stanford despite receiving offers from major programs like Alabama and Georgia. The Stanford product shows good zip on his passes and throws the ball with nice touch. He has a quick release and shows good accuracy in the short passing game but is extremely limited athletically. Mills is an interesting player who has some upside as a developmental player.
QB7: Kellen Mond, Texas A&M
Kellen Mond is an experienced college quarterback who had a lot of success in the SEC. He shows impressive natural arm talent and can improvise and make plays with his legs. However, Mond also displays inconsistent accuracy as a passer and tends to rush his decisions in the pocket.
2021 NFL Draft: Quarterback Tier 6
QB8: Jamie Newman, Wake Forest
We would have learned so much about Jamie Newman playing for Georgia this past season but he opted-out of the 2020 season, leaving us only with his time at Wake Forest to evaluate. Newman is a big and powerful quarterback who clearly has a strong arm and can make plays as a runner. However, his accuracy is widely inconsistent and he was rarely forced to make tough decisions at Wake Forest. He is an interesting dual-threat quarterback who has some upside but Newman has a long way to go before he is ready to play NFL football.
QB9: Kyle Trask, Florida
Kyle Trask feels like a good college quarterback who will just never be able to make it work at the next level. He is a quick and decisive quarterback who spreads the ball around the field well and shows solid accuracy in the short passing game. However, his arm talent is well below average and he does not move particularly well on the field. Trask could develop into a solid backup but I have a hard time believing that he could grow into anything more than that.
QB10: Sam Ehlinger, Texas
Sam Ehlinger was a productive college quarterback who was able to lead his team as a dual-threat player. Ehlinger is an extremely tough and competitive player who always leaves it all on the field. He shows a solid combination of speed and power as a runner but he is undoubtedly limited as a passer. Ehlinger is another prospect who could develop into a solid backup. He may also have some value as a player who can contribute at other positions.
