Rashawn Slater, OT, Northwestern

Another potential tackle option for the Cincinnati Bengals at five could be Northwestern’s, Rashawn Slater. A big riser throughout the 2021 NFL Draft process, Slater is another versatile player with rare athleticism that has made things interesting as far as who the top tackle off the board could be.

There is some debate as to where on the line Slater is best suited, but that doesn’t really hurt the argument that the Bengals should take him at five because they have needs both inside and out. Arm length is the big question with Slater, but if you remember, many thought Tristan Wirfs was best suited to play guard as well and he went on to become one of the best right tackles in the league immediately.

I for one think Slater has all of the tools to be a really good right tackle at the next level. He’s such a natural mover and he pairs that with good feet and consistent hands. He’s proved to have plenty of strength and his body control is special, as you rarely see him overextend or get caught off balance. Once he sinks his hips and gets his weight into a pass rusher, it’s a wrap. Just ask Chase Young.

The Cincinnati Bengals have had so many problems on the offensive line and Rashawn Slater would give them a chess piece that they could use wherever they feel they need him most. He would instantly upgrade the unit and would help to keep Joe Burrow a little more comfortable in the pocket in 2021 and beyond.
