4. Trey Sermon, RB, Ohio State

Melvin Gordon appears to have avoided suspension this year after having his DUI charges dismissed. Even still, he is only under contract for 2021, and will be a free agent after the season.

Phillip Lindsay was given an original-round tender by the Broncos, so there is obviously no guarantee that he will be back this season at all.

Royce Freeman is also in a contract year, so the Broncos should be considered “in the market” for running backs in the 2021 NFL Draft.

In the fourth round, Trey Sermon would be an outstanding value for them as someone who can contribute on all three downs and potentially factor into the starting conversation for 2022.

5. Sage Surratt, WR, Wake Forest

Tim Patrick and Courtland Sutton enter contract years in 2021. There is no doubt that Sutton is a cornerstone piece for the Broncos when healthy, but he’s coming off of a torn ACL so the Broncos need some insurance in the event Patrick leaves in 2022 and Sutton is not himself.

Even if Sutton returns to form, a player like Sage Surratt makes a lot of sense for the Broncos as Tim Patrick insurance going forward.

The Broncos heavily scouted Wake Forest in 2020 and added three players from their program. They would have undoubtedly taken an interest in Surratt, arguably the team’s best player offensively in 2019.
