Bonus: Extension for Carl Lawson

The Cincinnati Bengals made the curious decision to not franchise tag pass rusher Carl Lawson, who has now become one of the best and frankly most underrated players in the 2021 NFL Free Agency class.

I think the Bengals will ultimately get something long-term done with Lawson, but his name is one to monitor moving forward.

The Bengals’ primary focus outside of their own star pass rusher Lawson is protecting Joe Burrow from other pass rushers like him.

The Patriots did not franchise tag Joe Thuney, making the steady left guard a likely coveted piece for a variety of teams in free agency.

Thuney would not necessarily be the sexiest addition for the Bengals, but his addition would be music to the ears of Burrow, who is recovering from a severe knee injury and hoping to be back on the field by opening day in the 2021 season.

One way or another, the Bengals’ biggest investments should be on the offensive line after they look out for Lawson.
