The Chicago Bears don’t exactly have the greatest situation on their hands.

Although this is a team that is clearly a playoff contender if everything goes according to plan, they don’t have much of a solution right now at the quarterback position.

They brought in Nick Foles via trade last offseason and he’s still under contract, but former top draft choice Mitchell Trubisky is not.

Although it was completely unexpected, Alex Smith came back for the Washington Football Team in 2020 and knocked off the rust after a gruesome leg injury, winning NFL Comeback Player of the Year honors.

Although wins are not always directly tied to the quarterback, Washington went 5-1 in Smith’s six starts last season.

Could the Chicago Bears view Smith as a possible one-year option to get back to the postseason? General manager Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy may not be able to afford to be picky with limited draft options in their particular spot and only the pipe dreams of Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson at this point.

if the Bears are forced to turn to free agency at quarterback, they could very well turn to Smith, who has a ton of history with Matt Nagy (2013-17) in Kansas City.
